Springing to Life at Chippenham Community Garden

What a vibrant and energising start to the season it’s been at Chippenham Community Garden! As the days grow longer and warmer, our little green haven is bursting with life—and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share our progress with you.

Broad Beans, Rhubarb, and Dandelion Delights

Our broad beans are blooming beautifully, and the rhubarb patch is thriving—huge, lush leaves with striking red stalks ready to be picked. The children have especially enjoyed foraging for edible plants like dandelion petals, learning firsthand about the wonders of wild food. There’s nothing quite like seeing curious faces light up as they discover that nature’s snacks grow right under their feet.

Greenhouse Glory: Tomatoes and Herbs

Thanks to support from the Asda Foundation, we’ve begun erecting our brand new greenhouse—and it’s already filling up with flourishing tomato plants, herbs, and more. This sheltered space is helping us get a head start on the growing season, and it’s quickly becoming a favourite spot for potting, pruning, and peaceful chats.

Raised Beds and New Designs on the Horizon

With Jigsaw funding secured, we’re eagerly awaiting the construction of new raised beds. These will allow us to expand what we grow and make gardening more accessible to all ages and abilities. It’s also a great chance to rethink our layout and add more beauty and function to the space.

Looking Forward: Polytunnel Dreams

As the sun continues to shine, we’re also turning our attention to installing a polytunnel. This addition will open up so many possibilities—more crops, longer growing seasons, and protected spaces for community sessions, rain or shine.

A Place for Community, Growth, and Joy

Every week, we welcome new faces alongside our regulars. There’s always something to do, from watering and weeding to chatting over tea. Together, we’re cultivating more than just plants—we’re growing connection, confidence, and community.

Come down and see what’s blooming! Usual gardening sessions happen weekly on Fridays, 2-4pm- whether you want to dig in, learn, or simply enjoy the fresh air, you’re always welcome at Chippenham Community Garden.
